After four days of intense clashes from May 7–10, 2025, India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire under international pressure led by the United States. However, within hours of the agreement taking effect, reports emerged of renewed shelling and ceasefire violations, particularly along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir.

Tense calm at the India-Pakistan border in Kashmir following ceasefire |
The recent escalation stems from a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India, on April 22, 2025, which killed 26 civilians. India accused Pakistan-based militant groups and launched "Operation Sindoor" on the night of May 6–7, targeting alleged terror camps inside Pakistan-controlled Kashmir.
In response, Pakistan initiated "Operation Bunyan al-Marsus," striking Indian military bases. This conflict marks the first time both nations have deployed combat drones in direct warfare.

The conflict has taken a heavy toll on civilians, particularly in Kashmir. Reports indicate numerous civilian deaths, including children. Families have been displaced and traumatized, prompting global concern over the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region.

The United States, the United Nations, and other key powers have urged both nations to de-escalate and return to diplomatic dialogue. Despite the current truce, analysts warn that the ceasefire is fragile, and without a long-term political solution, the region remains at risk of a full-blown war.

Although both countries have paused their military operations, tensions remain high across the LoC. Kashmir, once again, stands at the center of geopolitical instability. With unresolved grievances and fragile diplomacy, the world must stay vigilant.
The coming weeks will reveal whether this fragile ceasefire leads to lasting peace or a dangerous new escalation.
